My Approach

My approach to therapy is based, first and foremost, around building a safe and connected relationship with my clients. Therapy techniques certainly matter, but research shows clearly that the quality of the relationship is the most significant factor in positive outcomes for clients. The specific modalities I employ draw from several different areas and the the approach we take will be based on your individual needs. In other words, we do whatever fits you specifically.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of one's thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment with a gentle and non-judgmental mindset. I utilize many different mindfulness techniques to help clients understand themselves better and move through their daily life with more acceptance and less suffering. Parts Work

Parts work is a therapeutic approach that explores and integrates different aspects or "parts" of an individual's personality. Through parts work, individuals engage in a process of self-discovery and understanding by acknowledging, dialoguing with, and ultimately harmonizing these various internal components. The goal is to promote internal unity, self-compassion, and improved overall mental and emotional well-being.

Anti-Oppressive Therapy

Anti-Oppressive Therapy (also called Systems therapy) recognizes that much of the suffering we experience in modern life stems from social pressure for us to fit into roles that require us to suppress or abandon parts of our authentic selves. These roles can be based on perceived race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and much more. The primary aim of systems therapy is to create a therapeutic space that is sensitive to these issues, empowering clients to explore and confront the impact of systemic oppression on their mental health.

Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy

Psychedelic-assisted therapy utilizes psychedelic substances, in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches, to help facilitate deep introspection, amplify emotional expression, and catalyze personal transformation. Psychedelics are by no means the “magic bullet” that the media has represented, but they are incredibly powerful tools when used carefully and intentionally. Somatic Therapy

Trauma and stress live in our bodies just as much as they do in our minds. Many of us have learned to disconnect, push away, or distract ourselves from the truths in our bodies that are foreign to our narratives and beliefs. Somatic therapy emphasizes the importance of bodily sensations, emotions, and movement in the therapeutic process. I utilize a variety of somatic techniques to help clients become more aware of and release tension, trauma, and emotional blockages held in the body.

The Holistic Approach

Holistic therapy looks at how all the different aspects of your life impact your mental health. If good sleep, diet, and exercise were somehow put in a pill, it’d be the most effective psychiatric medication on the market by far. Do not discount the impact that these lifestyle changes can make in your life. The quality of your social support, the roles you hold in your family, the working conditions at your job, and much much more - none can be ignored in working towards greater wellness in your life.
