Internal Family Systems Therapy
You’re trapped in cycles of self-doubt, shame, and negative coping patterns.
You may find yourself:
trying to numb out through overwork, food, screens, or substances
frequently getting stuck in anxiety, doubt, or dread
feeling “not good enough”
feeling easily stressed, triggered, upset, or overwhelmed
becoming more rigid, Type A, or perfectionistic
being unable to focus, concentrate, or complete tasks
These are all signs of a deep inner conflict - you can’t seem to break out because there are parts of you that want both.
You’re ready to integrate these parts - to move forward and let go of old ways of coping.
I.F.S can help!
Imagine your mind as a family with different members. Each member, or "part," has its own thoughts, feelings, and motivations. Sometimes these parts can conflict with each other, leading to inner turmoil or emotional distress. Through IFS, I can help you identify and understand these different parts of yourself. You might have a "critical part" that constantly judges you, a "care-taking part" that always puts others' needs before your own, or a "child part" that holds onto past traumas. Through therapy, you learn to communicate with these parts, understand their roles and intentions, and ultimately integrate them into a harmonious whole.
IFS provides a non-pathologizing way to work with issues that may seem really intractable
As we examine your parts, you will no doubt find that nearly all of them have a good intention (if not a bad strategy). IFS regards all parts of an individual as valuable and meaningful, even if they may cause distress or conflict. This approach emphasizes understanding and compassion towards oneself rather than pathologizing or labeling certain parts as "good" or "bad."
IFS for trauma
IFS is gaining traction as a treatment for acute and complex trauma. By viewing the mind as a complex system of different "parts," parts work can help individuals navigate the aftermath of trauma with compassion and understanding. Clients are guided through a process of identifying and befriending their inner parts, including those that hold painful memories and emotions. By creating a safe internal environment, individuals can explore their trauma without becoming overwhelmed, gradually releasing its grip on their lives.
